It’s ordination season and information coming in from the SSPX seminaries. This year, 23 priests will be ordained this summer in the North American and European seminaries.

Society of Saint Pius X: 23 Priests Will Be Ordained This Summer
The priestly ordinations of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) for the northern hemisphere will take place on June, 29, 2017 in Ecône (Switzerland), July 1st in Zaitzkofen (Germany) and July 2 in Dillwyn (United States).
On June 29, 2017, at the seminary Saint Pius X of Ecône (Switzerland), Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta will ordain 12 new priests for the Society: eleven French and one Spaniard.
On July 1, 2017, at the Seminary of the Sacred Heart in Zaitzkofen(Germany), Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais will ordain two new priests for the Society of St. Pius X: a German and a Czech.
On July 7, 2017, on the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, and first Friday of the month, at the seminary of St. Thomas Aquinas in Dyllwin (United States), Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society, will ordain nine new priests, all Americans.
In total, 23 new priests will be ordained this summer for the SSPX.
Founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the purpose of the Society is the priesthood and all that pertains to it and nothing but what concerns it; i.e., the priesthood as Our Lord Jesus Christ willed it when He said, “Do this for a commemoration of me.”
Six international seminaries, established in Switzerland, Germany, the United States, France, Argentina, and Australia, form the aspirants to the priesthood. Ecclesiastical studies aim at giving a sufficient knowledge of theology and doctrine and at the same time instill a profound piety, oriented towards the liturgy of the Holy Mass, which is the heart of theology, of pastoral activity, and of the Church’s life.

Richard Malcolm said…”This is actually a reference to religious orders affiliated with the SSPX, such as the Dominican community at Avrill, France.”
Mister Malcolm, Bishop Fellay said the following:
“[ . . . ] Rome is offering us a new structure. At its head will be a bishop, chosen by the Pope from a list of three Society members, named by the Society.
“He will have authority over priests, over any religious wanting to join the new structure and over Catholics belonging to the new structure.”
I am not certain that initiation into the Super Diocese will be limited to religious orders affiliated with the SSPX.
Bishop Fellay said that the head of the Super Diocese “will have authority over priests…wanting to join the new structure…”
Mister Malcolm, wouldn’t priests of the SSPX belong automatically to the Super Diocese? I would think so. Priests of the SSPX would belong automatically to the Super Diocese upon a Rome-SSPX agreement. Correct?
Therefore, Bishop Fellay’s statement that the bishop of the Super Diocese “will have authority over priests…wanting to join the new structure…” must refer to priests outside the SSPX who wish to join the Super Diocese. Correct?
I accept correction should I be wrong in regard to the above.
But as I understood Bishop Fellay’s remark in question, he made it clear that priests (as well as laymen and religious not attached to the SSPX) will be free to join the Super Diocese.
S.A. was on top of Bishop Fellay’s comments when they were first reported last year. Therefore, perhaps S.A. would comment as to whether the Super Diocese will be open to any Catholic (priest, religious, and layman) who wishes to join the Super Diocese.

Even if limited to the SSPX alone, the existence of the Super Diocese to safeguard and promote the SSPX’s mission would prove of monumental importance to the Traditional Catholic Movement.
The Super Diocese would enable the SSPX to spread the TLM, as well as Catholic life that flows from the TLM, to a monumental extent throughout the world.
Deo gratias for His Holiness Pope Francis and the holy, loyal manner in which he has treated the SSPX from his days (as Cardinal-Archbishop) in Argentina to date.
Via His Holiness Pope Francis, our God-loving Vicar of Christ, God has granted unto the SSPX a tremendous spiritual Father and friend. In turn, we all stand to benefit greatly from Pope Francis’ holy, noble, and unwavering determination to protect and promote the SSPX.

S.A., thank you for the great news via your post.
May the SSPX, FSSP, and all “traditional” communities who recognize His Holiness Pope Francis as the Vicar of Christ continue to prosper in holy fashion.
May “traditional” communities separated from Pope Francis return to the True Church via communion with His Holiness Pope Francis.
Via the “Super Diocese” that Pope Francis will establish for “traditional” Catholics, celebrations of the TLM will boom throughout the Church. That is why it’s imperative that “traditional” Catholic communities unite to the True Church via communion with Pope Francis, our God-loving Bishop of Rome.

This is all great news.
My understanding was that the FSSP ordained 12 deacons each in both Europe and North America, for a total of 24 – all of which are scheduled for ordination this year – ten of which were, as you post notes, just ordained last weekend,
This would be a first – the FSSP actually ordaining more men in one year than the SSPX. Not that this is a competition (it is not) – the more good traditional priests we have, the better. It’s just a sign of how far the FSSP has come since 1988, despite numerous obstacles and resistance from many hierarchs in the Church.
Another sign of which is the news last week that they would be gaining a new apostolate in taking over the longstanding (1988) traditional Latin Mass community at the Shrine of St Alphonsus in Baltimore. This will be the first Ecclesia Dei apostolate in any major East Coast city.

I pray that we live to see a time when the FSSP will be ordaining 100x as many priests as the SSPX. They have the “base” to do it from.
Aside, even though I sometimes joke about the “breakaway” communities, I will be the first to scream from the roof tops that we are on the same team.
PPS SSPX also has the Southern Hemisphere seminaries so they will have more for 2017.

Oops.
Clean forgot about those.
So odds are, the Society will still be ahead, and my comment would only cover ordinations for European and North American vocations.

Mister Malcolm’s excellent point leads me to the following:
In light of the FSSP’s holy success in the face of “numerous obstacles and resistance from many hierarchs in the Church,” I can only be filled with great hope and excitement in regard to the “Super Diocese” that His Holiness Pope Francis has planned for “traditional” Catholics.
When secured within the protective shell of Pope Francis’ “Super Diocese”, the TLM and “traditional” Catholicism will boom throughout the Church.
Deo gratias for God’s holy and humble servant — that is, His Holiness Pope Francis.
As the SSPX has noted, from his days in Argentina to date, Pope Francis/Cardinal Bergoglio has been a tremendous spiritual father and friend to the SSPX.
In turn, “traditional” Catholics not associated with the SSPX have benefitted greatly from the beautiful, holy manner in which Pope Francis has treated the SSPX.
Said Catholics will reap even greater benefits from Pope Francis’ great friendship with the SSPX when His Holiness establishes the “Super Diocese” which, in turn, will spur the tremendous growth of “traditional” Catholicism.

Just to clarify: all that’s on offer right now is a personal prelature for the SSPX. I suppose you can call this a “super diocese,” though it is stretching a point. In any event, on current evidence it only includes the SSPX, and not any other traditional groups. And I am not sure I (or the groups themselves) would want it to, in any case.

Hello, Mister Malcolm.
Bishop Fellay described the structure as a “Super Diocese.”
As to whether the Super Diocese would include only the SSPX, please note point #5. below. Thank you.
Our very own S.A. summed up the Super Diocese, which would serve as an outstanding protective structure for “traditional” Catholics, as follows:
“As to the negotiated undertakings themselves, it would appear that the SSPX would be allowed to function in the Catholic Church under a Personal Prelature from Francis, bishop of Rome or a “super diocese” as Bishop Fellay described it.
“The key points to this “super dioceses” would be that the SSPX would:
1.Have their own bishop, autonomous of any other diocesan bishop,
2.have the right to exclusively function under the pre VII liturgical regime, i.e. 1962 Missale Romanum,
3.have exclusivity over the priests, religious and Faithful under their care,
4.have the right to a bishop exclusively from their community,
5.and have the right to establish new communities and accept existing communities who want to come into their structure.”

Well, I concede the Bp. Fellay’s remarks. I think he’s being a little over enthusiastic, but he obviously has the right to characterize it.
“5.and have the right to establish new communities and accept existing communities who want to come into their structure.”
This is actually a reference to religious orders affiliated with the SSPX, such as the Dominican community at Avrill, France. The Society wanted their rights (and those of any future ones which they might help set up) preserved in any canonical deal.
It’s not going to be of use for existing Ecclesia Dei societies like the FSSP, IBP, ICRSS, the Abbey of Le Barroux, etc – even if they wanted to take advantage, which they won’t.
